Frequently Asked Questions

In the following, you'll find a curated list of frequent questions our users have about micro journaling, journaling in general, and the Journalistic app.

If your question is not among them, please don't hesitate and send us an email at help@journalisticapp.com so that we can help you out.

What is micro journaling?

A micro journal is essentially a bullet journal with a focus on a minimalistic writing style. Keeping the word count low leads to deep reflection and focus on the important things.

Why should I start a journal?

Keeping a journal is all about awareness and focus. Both writing and recapping daily logs help you reflect upon your relationships, accomplishments, goals, and life in general. Check out our post "Some Good Reasons to Journal Daily" for more good reasons.

What is the advantage of a journaling app over a paper journal?

In terms of writing experience, certainly nothing comes close to physical writing. However, a journaling app has the advantage of always being with you, and while searching things and aggregating insights can be very tedious with a paper journal, an app can make it easy as pie.

Is micro journaling suitable for beginners?

Yes, it requires substantially less time than traditional journaling, which makes it easier to establish a journaling habit.

Can I use a micro journal together with my traditional journal?

Absolutely! If you have the time, using both a micro journal and a traditional journal in parallel is ideal.

Can I use the Journalistic app as a dream journal?

Yes! Journalistic has a dedicated dream journaling module and dreams can be added directly to your daily entries.

Will my journal entries stay private?

Yes, we do not share your entries with anyone! Take a look at our post "Talking Privacy of Journaling Apps" for more details on the topic.

Is the Journalistic app available for Android and iOS?

Yes! Journalistic is a Progressive Web App (PWA), meaning you can install it on Android, iOS, and Chrome just like a native app. Journalistic is also available as a native Android app in the PlayStore and might come as native iOS app to the AppStore at some point.

How can I install the Journalistic app on my device?

Check out our "Installation Guide" and you'll be up and running in less than a minute.

Can I import data from other journaling apps like Day One or Journey?

Importing journal data is currently under construction and will be available soon.

Can I export my journal entries?

Yes, you can download all your journaling data easily in text (.txt), markdown (.md), and JSON (.json) format.

Can I use Journalistic as a bullet journal?

Yes. We call it a micro journaling app because of the emphasis on a minimalistic writing style, but Journalistic is technically a bullet journal.

Is there a Journalistic API?

Currently not, but there will probably be one in the future.

Are there integrations with other apps?

Not yet, but we're working on integrating Journalistic with all your favorite apps, i.a. Ōura, Notion, etc.

Can I track habits with Journalistic?

You can track activities and interactions with #tags / @mentions, but at its core Journalistic is not designed to be a habit tracker.

Will there be a native iOS app?

Probably yes. But at the moment we are putting most of our energy into enhancing the capabilities of our PWA. So, the iOS app will probably be a bit down the line.

When will the PRO version be released?

There is no meaningful timeline at the moment, but until the PRO version is officially released all PRO features are available for free for you to explore.

How can I support Journalistic?

Currently there are no means to financially support the project. The best way to contribute is to send feedback, share Journalistic with your friends, and rate the app in the PlayStore if you happen to use Android.
